Now news papers begin to report agony of doctors

EARLIER CNN ,TIMES OF INDIA, INDIAN EXPRESS ALL HAD REPORTED ABOUT AGONY OF DOCTORS GOING THRU DUE TO DELAY IN NEET RESULTS..

TODAY LOCAL NEWS PAPER FROM KASHMIR ALSO REPORTED THIS MATTER IN THIS WAY

JK’s 2000 medicos await SC verdict

PG entrance test results withheld

Srinagar, April 24:
The fate of around 2000 applicants of the State for postgraduate courses in medicine hangs in the balance after the Supreme Court’s stay on results allover India.
Around 2000 applicants from Jammu and Kashmir had appeared in the PG entrance test held by Board of Professional Entrance Examination (BOPEE).
However, soon after the test was held, BOPEE informed the applicants that the results could not be declared due to the Supreme Court’s stay on all PG entrance test results.
The SC ruling had come after certain States like Jammu and Kashmir, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka sought exemption for holding National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) through National Board of Examinations (NBE).
In J&K, the PG entrance for medicine used to be conducted by BOPEE, however, last year Medical Council of India (MCI) decided to conduct a single exam allover India on the basis of one nation, one exam.
NEET would cover all medical colleges except the Armed Forces Medical College and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi and the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh which are outside NEET’s purview as these institutes were set up by separate laws.
Reacting to this, several state governments including J&K, AP and Karnataka vehemently opposed the implementation of NEET-PG from this year.
Following this MCI approached the Supreme Court seeking its help to resolve the crisis.
The case now is sub judice and the applicants fear that they may lose one precious academic year in the process.
“We appeared in the entrance test held by BOPEE on February 24,” said an applicant wishing not to be named. “Two months have passed and the results aren’t over yet.”
The Supreme Court’s next hearing on the issue would be held on Thursday and the applicants are hoping that the judicial process does not affect the academic session.
“Usually the results are out within days or at the most within a week,” the applicant said. “Normally, by now we should have joined classes.”
Most of the medicos of the State aspiring for PG had appeared in the entrance test conducted by BOPEE although some applicants had appeared in NEET PG entrance tests also.
However, the results of both the BOPEE and NEET are withheld after the SC order.
BOPEE Chairman R D Sharma told Rising Kashmir that the SC verdict had affected applicants not only in the State but all over India.
“Between 1900 and 2000 applicants appeared in the PG entrance test held by BOPEE in Jammu and Kashmir,” Sharma said.
NEET results were expected to be declared by January 31 and the exam was conducted from November 23 and December 6.
There are about 5000 PG seats in medical colleges across India.
NEET-PG was introduced as an exam for admissions to MD, MS and Diploma courses in medical colleges (for both government and private) across India.
About 90,000 applicants have been affected by the delay of results.
The vacation of Supreme Court will start on May 13 and will reopen on July 1.
The delay has affected 90,000 students across India and the deadline for counseling of the PG courses is May 31.
There are speculations that this deadline could be extended depending on when NEET-PG results would be declared.
According to MCI, the private, minority and deemed universities should only accept NEET-UG and NEET-PG and hold no other interviews or additional exams.
MCI has also directed the State committees to ensure admission practices are followed under rules and regulations.
The applicants expressed hope that the apex court soon comes up with the verdict.
Supreme Court goes on vacation on May 13 and reopens on July 1
